Yuan Qi
Prof. Qi is a Chair professor at Fudan University and Dean of the Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Incubation (AI³) Institute. He obtained his Ph.D. from MIT and became a tenured faculty member at Purdue University, Vice President of Alibaba, and Chief AI Scientist and Chairman of the Data Intelligence Committee of Ant Financial Service Group. He has long been engaged in theoretical research on the applications of machine learning, computational biology, and financial intelligence. He has led the development of Alibaba's first ultralarge-scale distributed machine learning platform and PAI, the core AI product of Alibaba Cloud; led the building of Ant Financial Service Group's ultra-largescale graph neural learning platform and PrivacyPreserving Computation Platform; and built and led the Ant AI team to empower a number of financial businesses with AI technology and related products. He has received Microsoft's Newton Breakthrough Research Award, the USA NSF Career award, the Wellcome Trust Research Award, and the award for Outstanding Scientist of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. His work has been featured in The Economist and MIT Technology Review, and it was also included as a case study on AI innovation implementation at Harvard Business School.
